There are a variety of transport options for children to commute to and from our school. Walking or riding is the preferred option, as it helps to reduce traffic congestion, increases safety and ensures children arrive invigorated and ready to learn.
The Transport Canberra website has a dedicated section for schools, which highlights some of the transport options available in the ACT. The site includes a range of resources and information about the initiatives being delivered to support active travel and traffic management around schools, including:
- Active travel toolkit
- Active Streets for Schools program
- Part way drop off and collection points
- Pick up and set down guidelines
- Ride or Walk to School program
- School Crossing Supervisor program
- Traffic management around schools
Encouraging children to walk or ride to school is one of the most time efficient ways for children to receive the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity every day. If you need to drive, please drive safely around the school and obey the road rules at all times.
Transport Network
The ACT Government integrated public transport network includes bus and light rail services operating together. Some students will use a single bus route while others may make bus connections or use light rail.
Tips on staying safe on light rail are available from https://www.canberra-metro.com.au/safety
Get on board with MyWay+ - don’t forget to tap on and off
Once set up with MyWay+ students can simply tap or scan their preferred
payment method onboard buses or light rail:
- MyWay+ card (physical travel card available at MyWay+ retail outlets).
- MyWay+ pass (digital ticket available within the MyWay+ app)
- Printed ticket (purchased through your MyWay+ account or at a ticket vending machine)
- Mastercard or Visa (physical card or digital card stored on your smart phone or watch)
Student fares on school days are $1.22 per trip ($4.80 cap on a weekday) and you must show your student ID to the driver or customer service officer if asked.
Make sure you use the same payment method each time to register for student fares.
