Introduction:

English at Majura Primary School is taught using the Australian Curriculum. Teaching and learning within this area at our school is underpinned by a set of beliefs, developed with and by our classroom teachers. We use the Soundwaves phonics and word study program to teach spelling and develop reading and writing skills from kindergarten to year 6. Every year, Majura Primary runs a two week Writers' Festival. For these two weeks, every student writes at the same time. This festival is about celebrating and enjoying writing and listening to the stories of others. Indigenous Literacy Day and Book week are celebrated each year by dressing up and sharing quality literature.

Belief statement:

At Majura, we believe in fostering a love of reading. It is an essential skill for life that empowers students to access information and communicate effectively. We teach writing to empower and enable students to communicate and share their voice. Therefore, we believe that it should be taught and celebrated in an engaging, meaningful, accessible and challenging way.
