Student Parliament

Student Parliament is another opportunity to foster student agency in our year 6 students. The Student Parliament meets once a week to raise awareness, plan and drive initiatives based on any challenges or causes pertaining to Majura Primary School. As the parliament ministers are the spokespeople for their student body, it is essential that they are approachable around the playground and have exceptional communication skills. All members of the school have an opportunity to relay any concerns to the Student Parliament via email to the Student Parliament facilitator, a chat on the playground or drop in whilst parliament is in session once a week.

There are six parliamentary roles and each role is shared between two people. The six roles include environment, wellbeing, sports, communication, fundraising and arts ministers. Additionally, there is a singular role of clerk who collates agenda items, generates meeting minutes and distributes minutes to other members of parliament in a timely manner.

To become a minister, students must submit a compelling written argument to be voted into the role. Every candidate will bring something different to the role, therefore it is imperative to convey that along with any changes they would like to initiate in the parliament role. Above all however, is the embodiment of our school values as a student, during the selection process and throughout the commitment to the parliamentary role. The year 6 teachers will shortlist the candidates to an interview round in front of a panel of teachers once all persuasive texts have been collected. In the second round the candidates who have been shortlisted will sit in front of a panel of teachers and respond to a set of questions, similar to a job interview. From the persuasive argument and interviews teachers will determine who will lead the thirteen available parliamentary roles.
