Majura Primary School, including Watson Preschool, has an active Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association which plays a valuable role at our school.
All parents of students at Majura Primary and Watson Preschool are automatically members of the P&C and members of the Watson Community are also able to participate. Each year we have an AGM to fill a number of office bearing positions on the P&C, and we’re always looking for interested volunteers.
The main roles of the Majura P&C are:
- Support the school for the benefit of all students, primarily through fundraising activities.
- Promote parent engagement in the school and encourage strong community support, which includes running events to connect and bring our school community together.
- Provide a forum for parents to discuss and debate school issues.
- Work with the School Board to provide parent input into educational issues and policies.
- Directly advocate on behalf of the P&C’s members to external stakeholder such as ACT Government, Education Directorate, ACT P&C Council and other related organisations regarding issues affecting our school community.
Some of the fund-raising activities and events run by the P&C include our Majura Primary Fete, plant sale run through the school’s greenhouse and garden space, mango sale, trivia night, Christmas tree sales, kids colour run day, schools discos and many other interesting and fun activities. All of these events are well supported by both the school community and the local Canberra business community.
In 2020 P&C fundraising efforts contributed over $50,000.00 towards air-conditioners, a kitchen garden greenhouse, the schools’ Naturescapes area, IT equipment and other activities with the school.
Majura Primary P&C and a group of dedicated volunteers run the school uniform shop. The uniform shop provides both new and second hand uniform items which can be purchased either in person on Wednesdays between 8:30am and 9:30am or via our online site https://majurapandc.square.site/s/order
The P&C meets twice per term in weeks three and seven. These are early evening meetings run both face to face and via ZOOM video conferencing. Meetings are advertised in the school Newsletter, the Majura Primary School P&C Facebook page, and on the school’s noticeboard. RSVP is required for COVID reasons and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
